The Nabtesco NK6 knee unit features a unique 6-axis polycentric structure that ensures stability during the stance phase. The p-MRS system—a proprietary mechanical sensing mechanism—automatically detects the gait state and adjusts stability accordingly. Features such as stance-phase flexion control and a smooth swing phase, facilitated by a hydraulic cylinder, ensure a comfortable walking experience for the user.

The p-MRS (Polycentric-Mechanism of Reaction force Sensing) system is an innovative mechanical sensor that operates based on ground reaction force. It responds to the position of the body's center of mass (CoM), and the knee unit regulates its stability according to that position.

The p-MRS system mechanically locks the knee joint from heel strike to mid-stance to prevent instability, and then—during the pre-swing phase—naturally and smoothly releases the lock to transition into the swing phase.

A lock system is optionally available for the NK6 knee unit. This feature assists the user by providing maximum stability when needed. It is useful, for example, for gardening, climbing stairs, walking on snowy paths, rehabilitation or training, or in other situations requiring maximum stability. While the feature prevents the knee from buckling, knee flexion during the stance phase remains possible even in the locked mode.
